Tips for successfully working with the application

  • Surely you decided to ask Etiona, because you noticed some obscure symptoms and suspect that they may be related? So that the program can calculate this connection for you, select descriptions of the facts for which you are going to find out possible common reasons.

  • In the input field, you can enter a disease, symptom, complaint, an examination result that is different from the norm, or other etiopathogenetic link of interest.

  • Use the instructions or video demo on the main page to learn more about creating a question on the fact page. Write to us if you did not find the necessary symptom in the drop-down list. We`ll consider adding it in the near future.

  • When entering data into the form, select the definition from the drop-down list, the meaning of which is clearly clear to you. Do not enter facts into the list simply for quantity unless you are sure of their existence in your case.

  • If there are several very similar definitions in the drop-down list, then you can choose any: many symptoms are duplicated by synonyms. Or select them all. During the work of the program, their semantic connection will be taken into account and the result of the program will not suffer from entering synonyms.

  • At the moment, you can add from 2 to 15 facts of interest to you when creating a request. If in your case there are much more significant facts, try repeating the request in different combinations, adding new facts to the list each time and deleting something from the previous list.

  • All connections have different degrees of probability of occurrence, 100% probability only for connections between facts synonyms. All other connections are less likely. If the relationship is drawn with a dashed line, then it does not reflect a direct dependence, but is a suggestion of the program, its probability may approach 0 or its existence has not yet been confirmed by scientific sources. Etiona allows for such links to cover more nosologies in the search.

  • If you are in doubt about the correctness of an individual link in the response graph, you should check its reliability in your usual Internet search engine by entering the contents of the end nodes in the query line with a space. When filling the memory of Etiona, articles from scientific articles and books available in the public domain were used. Almost any atomic bond in a graph is described immediately by many authors and is found in several scientific sources at once.

  • Now the response of the program is configured so that all calculated possible causes are displayed. If there are too many answers, try increasing the number of facts entered in the query - this should narrow the boundaries of the search and reduce the number of calculated graphs.

  • Any disease or pathogenesis link should also have other manifestations / symptoms / consequences, you can see them by double-clicking on any node of interest in the graph. If new symptoms are confirmed in the list that opens, add them to the additional list of symptoms by clicking + at the end of the line. After closing the window with the list of symptoms, Etiona will draw short paths to the selected additional symptoms from the expected reason for all previously calculated graphs where he can.

  • The more additional symptoms appear in the response graph and the shorter the cause-effect chains from cause to symptom, the more suspicious this nosology is in the case you are interested in. If, after pressing the button `new question`, the list of additional symptoms will not be deleted, then, in the newly issued answer, Etiona will place such most suspicious diseases at the very beginning of the graph queue, sorting its answer in the order of occurrence of the given symptoms with the maximum probability and depending on the number of additional symptoms available in the graph.

  • The program draws only the shortest chains of cause and effect relationships between the given data and the possible cause. In reality, there can be several dozen of these paths and they can affect completely different links of pathogenesis, but when drawing all of them, the graph becomes gigantic and unreadable, so we had to weed them out for the convenience of users.

  • Do not take the response of the program as the ultimate truth. The work on filling the memory of Etiona with etiopathogenetic connections has only just begun, and so far the program has answered correctly not all of the user`s questions. Critically relate to the results and filter out the most fantastic and dubious ones.

  • If Etiona could not answer your question this time, then if the question has not lost its relevance, repeat it in a few weeks. The memory of Etiona is regularly updated with new information, and the answer given to her on the same question will change and be supplemented with time.

  • Select several variants of the most suspicious diseases for priority confirmation (or exclusion) by narrow specialists.
